Webinar: SMPTE ST 2110: What’s It All About?

20th February 2025

SMPTE ST 2110 has become the common abbreviation for the whole Professional Media Over IP Networks transition that the broadcast industry is currently undergoing. But ST 2110 isn’t a single standard. It’s a suite of standards, that individually address the timing, video, audio, and ancillary data streams that make up a complete program stream.

Whether you are new to ST 2110 or are highly involved in operating a 2110 broadcast system, this live webinar will prove invaluable. Steve Holmes and Kevin Salvidge will discuss the fundamental principles of SMPTE ST 2110 and the unrivalled analysis tools that the Leader and PHABRIX product ranges have for assisting you in monitoring and identifying issues in your 2110 broadcast infrastructures.

On the seminar, you’ll find out:

  •  The challenges of IP monitoring, especially for ancillary data
  • A look at SMPTE’s compressed vs. uncompressed specifications
  • The ST 2110 learning curve and how to train your operators
  • What to look for in 2110-capable test and measurement tools
  • Common IP stumbling blocks – complexity, device interoperability, PTP, and more

Webinar: What you need to know about NMOS in an IP World

14th November 2024

Join Steve Holmes and Kevin Salvidge as they discuss the basics of NMOS, why it’s useful, and how you can monitor and identify NMOS/SDP issues in your ST 2110 infrastructures using unrivaled analysis tools to prevent common problems.

Once upon a time, if you asked a broadcast engineer what they knew about NMOS, they would have responded by telling you it was an N-channel metal-oxide semiconductor transistor.

But that all changed as the broadcast industry started to adopt SMPTE ST 2110. Suddenly, a new NMOS came on the scene.

Rather than having to manually create and update host tables containing IP addresses and host names for complex broadcast systems, AMWA’s Networked Media Open Specification, or NMOS, was developed to assist in the discovery and connection of devices in an IP world.

On the seminar, you’ll discover:
• Why you need NMOS and how you can apply it within your workflows
• How to spot and prevent common NMOS/SDP problems
• The fundamentals of NMOS and beyond
• Which analysis tools from Leader and PHABRIX will help you in monitoring NMOS in both ST 2110 and hybrid setups
• NMOS troubleshooting – what you need when it comes to error reporting

Webinar: PTP Take 3

10th October 2024

Gerard Phillips (Arista), Steve Holmes and Kevin Salvidge (Leader) are back with a third Live PTP webinar, but this time you are in control.

They’ll be answering your questions concerning PTP and SMPTE 2110 deployments.

Between the three of them, they have an unrivalled ‘real-world’ experience of PTP and SMPTE 2110 installations and can highlight from personal experience how best to design, configure and expand you PTP system, whilst at the same time monitoring its performance and ensuring that any issues are addressed before they become critical to your broadcast operations.

Webinar: Do PTP and Blackburst make the prefect pair?

1st August 2024

For years broadcaster engineers have designed their facilities and used Blackburst as their tried and trusted reference signal. Then along came IP and the introduction of Media-over-IP and a new reference signal, Precision Time Protocol (PTP).

Now, most facilities are having to gradually migrate from SDI to IP and like the culture clash between traditional broadcast engineers and the new breed of IP broadcast engineers, both BB and PTP have to co-exsist, if the migration from SDI to be seamless and pain-free.

At Leader we have 70 years experience of helping our customers manage technology transitions, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we have been working on a product that combines both the traditional BB/TLS, Audio reference signals and SDI test pattern signals, as well as PTP and IP test patterns in a single product.

Join Steve and Kevin as they discuss the new Leader LT4670 Hybrid IP and SDI Sync Pulse Generator and how the customer challenges they have heard from early IP adopters have been overcome with the new LT4670.

So, irrespective of whether you have an operation SMPTE 2110 facility, or you are making your first tentative steps on your IP migration journey, Steve and Kevin will have something of interest for you.

Webinar: JPEG XS New Kid on the SMPTE ST 2110 Block ‘But is it the right stuff’

18th March 2024

Join us for our latest webinar, where we will be joined by Kevin Hein from Grass Valley to discuss how JPEG XS offers broadcasters a versatile and high-performance compression solution that addresses the unique challenges and requirements of the broadcast industry, from Live event coverage and studio production to remote collaboration and centennial distribution. Its adoption ie expected to grow as broadcasters seek to optimise their workflows and deliver high-quality content to viewers more efficiently.

Webinar: Rose are Red Violets are Blue – Do those colours look right to you?

13th February 2024

‘Seeing isn’t necessarily believing’, find out why HDR and Virtual production might not give you the pictures you are expecting and find out why a waveform monitor on-set will be your best friend.

Kevin and Steve chat with David Stump Director of Photography at ASC about the challenges of SDR & HDR chromakey production and using Video arrays in virtual production.

David will highlight some of the common ‘pitfalls’ of working Blue/Green screens and video arrays in Virtual Production.

Webinar: Live IP – Covering All Your Bases

11th January 2024

Welcome to our first Leader PHABRIX live webinar of 2024 and what a busy year for sport 2024 is going to be, with more and more productions deploying SMPTE ST 2110 Media-over-IP based productions, how do you ensure that your production doesn’t score an ‘own goal’?

Well, Steve and Kevin are pleased to welcome Kristof Van der Veken of EVS to join them in an open and honest discussion about some of the common ‘pitfalls’ that productions make when deploying SMPTE ST2110 systems in a Live Production environment.

So, irrespective of whether you are an IP veteran, or this is your first IP rodeo, what better way to ensure that you have all ‘your bases covered’, than to join us for the next hour or so?

We will be taking questions, so please use the chat facility if you have any questions and we will ensure that Kristof, Steve and Kevin answer them during the show.
