Leader Electronics’ LV5350 waveform monitor will form the test and measurement core of a digital film production system on the Mission stand, 206, at the upcoming BSC Expo 2023. The show will be held from Friday February 24th through Saturday February 25th in its usual location: London’s Battersea Evolution. A highly experienced IT and digital dailies service provider, Mission uses Leader test instruments to support its SDR and HDR on-set DIT, lab and DI activity. The LV5350 waveform monitor will be displayed as part of a DIT cart configured to ensure mobility on a studio set or location shoot.

”We will be promoting our full range of digital workflow capabilities including on-set DIT, digital dailies video playback, and our Origami platform (https://www.origamiplatform.io/) providing VFX and DI pulls,” says Tom Mitchell, Mission’s Technical Director.

“It is imperative that your colour pipeline is managed correctly when colour is important to your visual narrative. In addition to looking after digital dailies and video playback requirements, our key role is to ensure that the cinematographer’s vision is carried through to post-production and enjoyed by audiences in exactly the way it was intended to be.

“At Mission, we calibrate every monitor on set for every production we work on. Despite all that, you can never fully trust the environment or your eyes to be the final signoff due to the subjectivity of it. That is why we insist on having good signal measurement tools to give us absolute judgment on whether we have a shot in the bag. Without our Leader scopes, we could not have that.

“The LV5350 presents the information DITs need in a clean and logical style so that a wide variety of issues likely to affect signal quality can be checked quickly and accurately. Production teams greatly appreciate the multiscreen display which allows critical parameters to be compared in a single view. Leader’s CINEZONE and CINELITE tools are also very useful as they allow real-time monitoring.”

“Ensuring signal parameters are correct during the initial shoot reduces or eliminates the need to perform technical fixes during postproduction,” adds Kevin Salvidge, Sales Engineering & Technical Marketing Manager at Leader Europe. “This is especially important when creating content in 4K-UHD HDR. Leader test instruments provide the tools needed to detect and analyze errors and make the necessary correction. The LV5350 has become a de-facto standard for many DITs, film production companies and OB service providers. The latest software release, v6.7, for the LV5350 enables DITs to use Leader’s CINEZONE real-time false colour exposure and CINELITE (built-in light meter) tools simultaneously, as they could with the LV5330 and LV5333.”

“We have worked with Mission Digital over many years, supplying Leader on-set test instruments for various productions,” adds Chris Margrave-Gregory, Sales Manager of Leader channel partner Thameside.tv. “Their BSC Expo demonstrations over the years have proved highly informative and are well worth experiencing.”

The Leader LV5350 is a mains or battery powered 3U high half-rack-width short-depth waveform monitor. It comes with a range of tools plus Leader’s intuitive CINEZONE and CINELITE. All features are accessible from the front control panel, augmented by a 1920 x 1080 resolution 7 inch touchscreen TFT LCD monitor. A focus detection option allows the instrument to sense edges across a very wide range of image contrast levels. Additional options include 4K/UHD support, 12G-SDI interfaces, SDI-embedded audio analysis, SDI signal generation, CIE chroma chart, HDR measurement, customized display layout, tally display, extended chroma vector display and closed-caption display.
