Sonifex, a UK-based manufacturer of high-quality audio equipment for AV integration, installed sound, broadcast radio and broadcast TV, has relied on PHABRIX test and measurement instruments since 2008. Sonifex is home to multiple Sx handheld instruments for 3G/HD/SD testing, and more recently the Qx rasterizer, for advanced 12G-SDI Generation, Analysis and Monitoring.

Luke Bradshaw, R&D Director at Sonifex, comments, “I believe when we initially bought the SxA, it was possibly from one of the first batches built. It’s serial number has just two digits in it! We had invested in some other Test and Measurement equipment which wasn’t really working as expected, so we looked for alternatives and decided on a PHABRIX handheld. Initially, we used the SxA for simple production testing on our first generation of SDI boxes. We liked the portability of the unit along with the audio features, so it worked nicely alongside our existing test equipment.

When it became available, we decided to invest in one of the SxE units. This meant we could do all of our production testing of our SDI equipment with one box, including Physical Layer Testing with its advanced Eye & Jitter toolset. We also added the Dolby and remote control options, as at the time we were shipping Dolby E codecs with our embedder/de-embedder units and this provided an “all-in-one” automated testing solution.

“With regards to the Qx, we were getting a lot of requests from customers for 12G-SDI support in our boxes. This meant upgrading our test equipment. We had a demo of the Qx and it did everything we needed it to and more, so it was an easy decision for us.

We chose the Qx rasterizer because we had a history of using PHABRIX equipment, it did everything we needed it to, and we knew we could rely on the PHABRIX support team if we needed to. Currently it’s being used in both our development lab and for production testing of our 12G-SDI designs, with its advanced Physical Layer Testing toolset a very valuable feature. We are planning on integrating the Qx into our automated production testing suite soon.”
